A tax assessment was carried out in Hanover, Ulster, New York in 1779. This area is largely within the current Town of Montgomery, Orange, NY. The data is from microfilm in the New York Archives: (Box 2, Folder 7, Doc 50; see microfilm roll A-3210) A pdf of the Hanover microfilm is here. The tax to be raised is in dollars, but the assessment appears to be in pounds(£)/shilling/pence. Only the values are transcribed, not the tax.
The assessed tax was 3 shillings and 7 pence on each pound of real and personal property. This comes to an 18% property tax! This was during the war when the citizens were cash poor. The assessments were likely paid with crops and livestock.
