Sloane (1905-1985) was a prolific artist and author of the Early American way of life. Born in New York City as Everard Jean Hinrichs, he trained with the NYC Art Students League, and assumed a pen name honoring his mentor, John Sloan.

Orange County loved Eric Sloane! For fifteen years in a row he appeared at Eric Sloane Day, a joyful event held in Sugar Loaf, New York. It celebrated Slaone's dedication to sketching rural life and the early tools used by our pioneer craftsmen. Thousands of lovers of his illustrations of early barns, homes and everyday implements were faithful visitors. They cherished his extraordinatry books depictng early American scenes and marveled at his breathtaking paintings of sky scenes.

Who best to discuss this talented man than the society's own JOHN PENNINGS, a Walden resident and trustee of the Eric Sloane Museum in Kent, Connecticut. Mr. Pennings will narrate details of Sloane's interesting life and truly stunning paintings with a remarkable presentation that is FREE to the public.
