A FREE PROGRAM

Did you ever wonder about those fertile fields of black dirt in Warwick, Chester and Goshen? Want to know about the history and rich culture of those who planted the crops and worked the lush fields at harvest time?

Then hear local author Cheetah Haysom present the stories of the times of prosperity and hardship, of cooperation and rivalry among land owners, of stormy weather and prickly governmental regulation and of the ongoing challenges in profitably marketing the crops.

Our speaker, a long time Pine Island resident, wrote Pride and Produce. Through stories about the original farm families and their descendants she speaks knowledgeably about the origins and evolution of this fascinating agricultural area that nourishes the New York metropolitan area. Find out about your food!

Copies of her book will be available at the program.
